CERTIFIED DATA DESTRUCTION TO REDUCE LEGAL RISKS
A firm hires a new lawyer which copies to his assigned computer a database of clients he took with him from the law firm his was working for.
During the first few weeks, this database circulates freely within the firm as the employee decides to share it within his new department. Specifically, it is sent by mail and copies are generated onto external USB drives.
It doens't take long for news to reach the law form who this employee had been recently working for which in turn request explanations from our customer.
CFLabs is requested to locate and remove all traces of such information in all corporate systems.
CFLabs combined in this case a first phase of Forensic e-Discovery along with a certified disposal of electronic data process. Despite having only six emails sent from the account of the newly hired lawyer, those emails had in turn been forwarded multiple times by many of the recipients, finally several dozens of emails with sensitive information had to be redacted. Forensic e-Discovery experts where also eable to identify several computers on which this sensitive database had been copied to USB drives. Our team was able to produce brand, model and serial number of USB hard drives to include on the certified data destruction process to guarantee complete removal of data.
CFLabs finished the job by providing a thorough report certifying the secure destruction (not being possible to recover such information) of all copies of the customer database identified throughout computers and servers of the firm. The report was enough to avoid legal actions and in turn served as evidence to open an internal disciplinary process.
